The Power of Pause – Inner Stillness
We’ve all had moments when we wished we had taken a pause – to allow ourselves the chance to regain calm and tune into what would be an intelligent response in the next moment. Yet even knowing the value of pausing, we can still allow frustration, rushing, harsh judgments, or other reactions to block our intuition and the need to: Pause before engaging, especially in sensitive situations. Example: Emails we wish we could take back and reword.
In today’s times of often disruptive energies and uncertainty, it’s especially important to pause from whatever we’re doing to connect with our heart’s inner calm for clarity and unbiased assessments. Doing this will often show us a more effective and less stressful choice than the one we were about to make.
We often hear people say, “If I had more foresight, I would have handled that differently.” Taking pauses to sit in a place of inner stillness is important
for increasing foresight and discernment. Practicing inner stillness softens our mental and emotional traffic so that our heart’s intelligent suggestions can be sensed.
How many times do people tell children to get still inside and listen up when we have something important to tell them? This is because we instinctively know that inner stillness plays a part in the quality and depth of their hearing ability. So why not use the power of pause and stillness in the way it counts the most –to quieten our own mental and emotional static so that we can hear the counsel and wisdom from our heart’s intuitive guidance. For most of us, knowing that we need to pause at times is not the problem – it’s remembering to do it, especially when it counts the most. Here are some key times to practice the power of pause.
For most of us, knowing that we need to pause at times is not the problem – it’s remembering to do it, especially when it counts the most. Here are some key times to practice the power of pause.
- We all can get caught off guard with email communications and inflamed responses that we seriously wish we could take back. Some people have shared with us that they lost friends in these situations. Learning to pause before online communications is especially important.
- When you want a deeper connection with someone, pause and quietly breathe your way into the stillness of your heart space. Radiate care and appreciation or compassion to the person – then your heart energy will facilitate your approach.
- Take a few minutes to pause and radiate kindness and compassionate listening into future meetings or interactions. This sets a tone for deeper sharing and compassionate listening. Practicing this will eventually lead to higher outcomes.
- Concerning health, it’s helpful to pause at times, sit in relaxed stillness, and imagine breathing love and healthy thoughts into your cells. Breathing feelings of love, compassion, and kindness through your cells is an ancient practice of next-level healing that is becoming more popular. It’s been proven to enhance the immune, hormonal, and nervous systems, which helps with restoration. We can make many things better, even if it’s a deeper heart acceptance of our situation until we have more understanding.
- Environmental influences and disruptive planetary changes often trigger increased excitability, which can affect our mental and emotional behavioral patterns in unexpected ways (memory lapses, brain fog, anxiety, fear, edginess, aches in odd places, sleeplessness, elation, depression, and more). When you experience any of these symptoms, it’s helpful to breathe ease and take deeper pauses for discerning and double-checking your communications and decisions.
We’re living in some of the toughest times of stress, and it’s important to know that more and more people throughout the world are feeling these stressful symptoms while doing the best they can. So don’t judge yourself, and practice trying not to judge others as well. Our judgments amplify most of our stress. It’s okay for us to feel concerned and out of balance at times, but it’s prudent to learn tools to offset the stressors and find the best path through our particular situations. Connecting with our heart feelings in stillness for guidance is a good place to start.
Doing one or more of these practices for a week or longer will strengthen our inner stability, while helping to prevent much of the stress that blocks our clear thinking and effective choices. With a little practice, we will be able to take quick inner pauses while on the go to discern what would be the most appropriate mental, emotional or physical response to a situation.
One of GCI’s intentions with each Care Focus is to provide effective tools, even if we repeat some of them at times. We do this because they are especially helpful for handling the increasing stressors that compromise our mental and emotional reasoning capacity. We realize that not everyone is experiencing the same level of stress. These types of tools, however, and not just HeartMath tools, can add to anyone’s discernment and mental and emotional stabilization.
We know that Love is the principal tool. GCI’s research has been to help prove that. Any tools that bring the heart, mind, and emotions into greater coherence can be more helpful now than ever through these transitional times. Remember: It’s practice that releases the genie within the tools.
Care Focus: The Power of Pause – Inner Stillness
- As you breathe quietly, imagine your breath calmly slowing down the vibration of your mental and emotional energy to an inner stillness. Stay with it and don’t care if your mind disrupts you. With practice and patience, you can learn to manage this.
- As you feel your energy calming, softly radiate love and peace into your environment. This connects you with your heart energy.
- While maintaining your state of calmness, ask your heart for guidance, solutions, or a deeper understanding regarding any situation you are experiencing. (Our higher choices become more obvious as we increase our capacity to pause and listen in stillness to our heart’s feelings.)
- Let’s close by radiating our deepest care and compassion to all people around the world suffering from fear, anxiety, or trauma due to wars, displacement, natural disasters, or other stressors, as your heart guides you.
