In the final newsletter of 2008, we told you about the many accomplishments you helped the Institute of HeartMath achieve throughout the year, and now we’d like to tell you briefly about some of HeartMath’s plans for continuing to promote the principles and ideals of heart-based living. We ask that you renew your partnership support with IHM as we renew our commitment to help people of all ages everywhere to reduce stress in their lives and achieve emotional balance.
First, a quick note about our year-end fundraising: The new challenges confronting all of us in light of the world financial crisis that emerged in the waning months of the year caused a great many people to retrench and rethink their personal and household economies – with good reason. Although HeartMath felt the impact in its fourth-quarter and annual fundraising goals, we sincerely appreciated each and every contribution, knowing what a sacrifice this was for some of you. We pledge to you to continue the important work you expect from HeartMath and that the world so desperately needs in these times of challenge and change. If you would like to donate, click here.
- In the early discussions about the coming year, the IHM Executive Team agreed to focus on finding new ways to serve our members, donors and customers in even better ways in 2009. Seems like that should be a natural for any organization that serves people: We couldn’t agree more, and one of the ways we plan to do this is to establish an online forum for you to communicate with one another – perhaps about your HeartMath experiences, matters of the heart or other topics. Also, if you don’t know yet, Institute of HeartMath has Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and Twitter pages, and we’ll continue our social networking outreach for even greater presence around the Internet.
- We’re developing a Members Only Area where you’ll be able to view special Webinars on a variety of interesting topics. Our computer technicians already have designed the pages and are awaiting some new technology, so if it’s not up and running by the time you read this, expect it soon thereafter.
- The staff at IHM, along with thousands of heart-focused people in the United States and abroad – perhaps you’re among them – will carry on with our mission of care and compassion to make the De-Stress Kit for the Changing Times booklet available for free to at least 1 million people this year and when it looks like we’ve all achieved that goal, then we’ll get going on the second million! HeartMath also will be pursuing even more translations of The Kit into other languages as we strive to reach distant lands with this timely and compassionate work by IHM founder Doc Childre.
- As you may know, HeartMath already has helped thousands of U.S. veterans with its heart-based techniques, technology and services and as the drawdown in Iraq the new administration has committed to get under way, a great many more returned soldiers will be in need of care. The Kansas National Guard training and study, which is set to begin soon and which you can read about in this issue will provide valuable data, along with exposure of the HeartMath System, so IHM looks forward to the opportunity to serve those who have served all of us. The grant that is funding the study is just one of many HeartMath will be pursuing or applying for this year on behalf of American veterans.
- IHM will continue seeking contributions for construction of the Global Coherence Monitoring System’s Data Communication Network as progress continues on the Global Coherence Initiative. The Data Communication Network, which will allow data from multiple sensor sites to be sent back to the Central Data Acquisition and Analysis Center in Boulder Creek, Calif., will cost about $100,000, We’ll keep at it.
- HeartMath expects to finish developing the Early HeartSmarts® Parenting product to help parents be full partners as their 3- to 6-year-olds participate in this unique program for acquiring social and emotional skills and building a foundation for future learning.
-
The IHM Research Division will be updating HeartMath’s signature Science of the Heart publication, as well as writing and publishing other research papers and studies. The final touches are currently being applied to the document detailing IHM’s landmark TestEdge® National Demonstration Study in preparation for publication in a peer-reviewed science journal.

- How about a fundraising gala that would help the institute meet its financial goals while giving you and all of us at IHM the opportunity to celebrate our mutual mission of heart-based care and intention?
We’ll keep all of you up to date and informed about these and other plans and activities at the Institute of HeartMath, including more details of our 2009 strategic goals as they are finalized. In partnership with you, we look to this New Year with hope, care and compassion, and we wish you all the best.
With gratitude,
Sara and the Institute of HeartMath Executive Team
