De-Stress Kit for the Changing Times

A staggering and rising number of people face crippling hunger, poverty and war – and now a financial calamity that has rocked the foundations of world economies. Anger, fear and hopelessness threaten the stability of entire nations as people’s emotions spiral out of control under the weight of debilitating stress.

Doc Childre, founder of the Institute of HeartMath, an international leader in stress solutions, has responded to these troubled times with a modest 28-page booklet in which he freely offers caring and effective advice along with tools to help hearten a disheartened world – and the world is responding.

In little more than a month De-Stress Kit for the Changing Times already is circulating the United States and many other countries as people in vast numbers that seem to be growing exponentially embrace its concepts and practices for achieving emotional balance and stability. There’s been a flurry of activity.

The De-Stress Kit has popped up on Web sites around the Internet Originally printed in English, the De-Stress Kit is also available in Spanish and soon will be translated into Japanese and Chinese, with additional translations contemplated as other cultures seek to have this inspired work in their own languages. A free audio download of The Kit should be up on the www.heartmath.org site around late January. The De-Stress Kit has popped up on Web sites around the Internet. It’s on blogs, Facebook and MySpace pages. The American Institute of Stress has it on its home page and a businesswoman posted it on her personal Web site and sent it in her e-mail database of 2,000 contacts. Hospitals have sent The Kit out to their entire staffs, an employee benefits firm provided it to hundreds of client organizations, a Missouri cardiac center gave it to all patients and their families, and because of the time of year, a great number of people included it as a gift to friends, family and others on their holiday greeting-card lists.

Childre and IHM officials were pleased by the tremendous response thus far. They are hopeful The Kit and its message of encouragement and tools for coping with our great challenges will cast an even wider net to reach the many who are hurting in remote locations of the world.

In a section of the booklet titled Creating a Turnaround, Childre explains, "When a significant crisis happens, such as the current economic upheaval that is affecting so many, our stress tolerance level depletes from initial shock and emotional pain. This is followed by feelings of overwhelm which inhibit our capacity to cope; yet it’s completely understandable why we feel the way we do. It can be helpful at the onset to experience and vent the emotional buildup to release the steam and the pressing energy. We need time to experience our shock, grief and anger, or to sit quietly with ourselves in the privacy of our own pain."

"I was inspired to write the De-Stress Kit from my increased sensitivity to the rapidly increasing stress that millions are experiencing in these current times," he said. "My passion to get it out was generated from experience with a personal crisis in my own life. I crossed the void from hopelessness back to self-security when I thought it was impossible and I now feel compassionate and compelled to help others do the same.

"The understanding that I accumulated from my experience, signaled me to a personal call for action and the De-Stress Kit was born from that. I plan to do what I can to help where needed through the transition of these changing times and hope that the collective consciousness of the people will be inspired to do the same. It’s a time to roll our sleeves up and care."

In a thank-you note to IHM, registered nurse Felicia Foster wrote, "I am teaching a three-credit course on the biological effects of conscious intention at UVM (the University of Vermont). I made copies of (the De-Stress Kit) you sent to me for all of my students and they were very grateful and have become believers."
