Web Pages Packed With Advice for Educators

A new school term has begun for millions of teachers, counselors, administrators and others who work with students around the world. In August schools began reopening from Brazil to the United States, Namibia and South Africa to Germany, Denmark and Iran. In September Israel, Mongolia, England, Canada and Romania will join them.

With the renewal of the education cycle comes one of the world’s most exciting and industrious times of year, but it can also be a period of great stress for educators. The Institute of HeartMath understands the stresses posed by the start of the school year for educators, and we have compiled a series of informational applications that can ease the rigors of helping shape young lives.

We encourage educators to peruse HeartMath’s Education Applications for valuable tools and tips to assist them in managing the special needs of their students and themselves. Each application is a kind of teacher’s aide with facts and helpful advice. They rely on HeartMath’s more than 19 years of scientific research and controlled field studies on the power and intelligence of the heart, managing emotions and reducing stress.

Notes on Three IHM Education Applications:

Staff Resiliency 1. Staff Resiliency (teachers and staff) – An independent report by the National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future estimates the high rate of teacher turnover in U.S. schools costs more than $7 billion annually. It cited a lack of mentoring and professional development for all teachers as primary factors.

HeartMath believes providing teachers ways to maintain equilibrium and poise in their classrooms and relationships with colleagues and administrators can increase job satisfaction, success and retention. HeartMath’s highly successful Resilient Educator® program is helping teachers, counselors and other staff reduce stress levels and reconnect with the spirit and commitment they had at the start of their careers. Go to the application.

Student Counseling2. Student Counseling – The student counselor bond with young learners is a special one. The counselor is trained to listen to and treat students with respect and care. Counselors help students understand and care for themselves in self-directed ways. Though counselors may come into and go out of students’ lives at various times in their academic careers, always having their support available adds a valuable dimension to learning, emotional well-being and maturation. Go to the application.

Mentoring and Tutoring3. Mentoring and Tutoring – The relationship between mentors and tutors and students can help ease the pressures of cumulative emotional stress from family issues, peer pressure, overwhelm and boredom and assist students and/or their teachers in improving performance and well-being. Employing the intelligence of the heart and learning to manage their own emotions can greatly enhance mentor and tutor effectiveness as they guide students, while providing ways to add meaning and caring to the lives of those they serve. Go to the application.
