Dear ,

Take Out The Significance—A Key to Peace and Satisfaction

In recent Updates we presented two HeartMath tools Notice and Ease and The Power of Neutral. You can save a lot of energy by using the tools together because you’ll be learning to identify what you are feeling and neutralizing your inefficient reactions and thoughts. In this Update, we will cover a tool that will make it a little easier for you to "regrid" your emotional response system, to shift more quickly and truely clear unwanted emotional reactions. It’s called, "Taking Out The Significance."

Most of us do it some of the time. For example, we’ve all said something like "I was stressing about it until I realized whichever way it goes, my world isn’t going to blow up." Sometimes that’s all we need to remember and we can shift our perspective, release an unsettled feeling and move on.

On major issues in which we have assigned a lot of significance, however, it can be more challenging to move from the conceptual to the emotional alignment needed for taking significance out of an issue.

Here are a few tips to help when you find it difficult to take out significance or drama:

  • Remember, it’s not the problem that causes the internal energy drain, as much as it’s the stored significance we assign to the problem. Just realizing that it’s not the issue itself that is causing the discomfort, but rather the emotional significance or importance that helps to take out some of the significance.

  • Assume objectivity about the feeling or issue, as if it were another person having this problem. One of the first things you may notice is how much more compassionate and understanding you are toward this imagined person than you have been toward yourself.

  • Tell yourself with genuine heart intent, "Take out the significance."

  • Breathe ease and calm while telling yourself to "take the significance out of whatever is going on."

  • Dissolve the significance a little at a time. Imagine you are soaking the significance in the warmth of your heart.

Sometimes, we simply have to disengage, shift to something totally different and come back an issue later. For example, I had some lingering drama around a "serious" computer glitch. I had the conceptual understanding that it was not really a big deal, but my emotional alignment was not there. I decided to watch a very funny video clip sent to me earlier in the day. While watching the video, I breathed ease and calm. Two minutes later I returned to the issue with a completely different perspective. Now, I was emotionally aligned with "It really is no big deal".

As you build your ability to use this tool, you will acquire the power to take more significance out of emotionally charged situations. Then more of your heart intelligence and intuition can get through.

Heartfully,
Brian Kabaker
