Heart-Based Education Sponsorship Fund
With great passion and enthusiasm, the Institute of HeartMath® is launching the Heart-Based Education Sponsorship Fund. For many years we have explored ways to put HeartMath’s life-changing educational programs and unique technology into the hands of students and teachers who otherwise would not have access to them. This can be done now through the Heart-Based Education Sponsorship Fund. The fund will rely on your donations, which will be used to improve student learning and promote positive classroom and social behavior. Not only will you equip teachers with highly effective tools to help their students succeed, but you’ll also instill greater confidence and inspiration in the teachers – at a time when so many are leaving this vital profession, disenchanted or burned out.
We have formed an advisory board to select scholarship recipients. The selection criteria entails choosing teacher and student candidates based on need and their capacity to utilize the institute’s education programs. Please take a moment to consider donating to the Sponsorship Fund. It’s a wonderful opportunity to lend your support to help students and teachers take advantage of these programs. With your help, we can build a new and exciting culture of heart-based learning, where healthy, balanced children can prepare for the changes and challenges of the 21st century and the quest to make the world a better place.
Teaching is considered one of the more challenging jobs in today’s world. Teacher turnover is at an all-time high. The demands on educators are increasing in number and intensity: mastering new subject matter, addressing diverse student needs, implementing assessments, learning new technology,
maintaining classroom order, managing time and making sure all students learn. It takes more energy and stamina than ever to successfully teach today.
The Resilient Educator in-service training provides scientifically validated techniques and strategies to stop the negative impact of stress – mentally, emotionally and physically. Educators benefit by making smarter decisions under pressure, improving communication with staff, students and parents, reducing fatigue and failure and improving the overall classroom climate and learning environment. Donate today so you can help a school receive the Resilient Educator training program and rekindle educators’ caring and motivation.
Qualified Instructor Program – Train-the-Trainer Program
This training program educates a licensed trainer in the Resilient Educator program, from which they can then present these workshops to others in educational settings in a cost-effective way. Studies show that the Resilient Educator has helped educators improve communication with staff, students and parents; to think more clearly and make smarter decisions, especially under pressure; improve the overall classroom climate and learning environment;
and create a stronger school culture. Additionally, educators have made significant improvements to motivation and outlook and achieved major reductions in stress, fatigue, exhaustion, anger and educators’ desire to quit their profession. Donate now to help trainers touch the lives of thousands of students and teachers.
HeartSmarts for Classroom A Social and Emotional Learning Program
Performance anxiety, peer pressure, fear of violence: There’s enormous pressure to do well in school and fit in, not to mention the numerous relationship challenges with family, friends and teachers. The HeartSmarts programs will help students in grades K-5 learn to identify their emotions, recognize situations that trigger stressful emotions, learn skills to improve communication and be taught a series of tools on how to shift to the heart. Designed for regular classrooms, small breakout groups and after-school programs, HeartSmarts addresses the critical
role emotions play in classroom learning, performance and behavior. Students love this program, which has been successfully piloted at several elementary schools, because it enables them to talk about what is most important and offers concrete ways to help them feel and perform better. Please donate to help prepare today’s children for tomorrow.
TestEdge® for the Classroom Test-Taking and Learning-Improvement Program
Test anxiety affects most students. Anxiety and stress creates a noise or mental static in the brain, blocking students’ ability to retrieve what’s stored in memory, thus greatly impairing their ability to comprehend and reason. Many children become emotionally and physically upset weeks before a test. A low or failing score on a test doesn’t always mean a student hasn’t learned the material: Research shows that students don’t know how to deal with the anxiety taking tests causes. TestEdge programs for the third-12th grades help students learn to
overcome test anxiety, resignation and discouragement. Students who’ve received TestEdge Classroom programs demonstrated substantial improvements in test scores and passing rates on state-required math and reading tests. They also experienced significant reductions in hostility, depression and other key indicators of psychological distress. Society has put a great deal of pressure on children to succeed on tests and now we need to also give them the skills and know-how to deal with test-taking pressures. Donate so you can help a classroom of students feel successful.
Special Education Programs
HeartMath programs and technologies have greatly helped special-education teachers, counselors, school psychologists and administrators positively impact their students. Jill Farrell, who teaches special-education students on a Native American reservation school in Arizona, said, "HeartMath learning programs and techniques are essential for giving special-needs students the tools they need to go into the regular classroom. HeartMath appealed to me because kids have to feel safe or else learning is not going to happen." Through HeartMath education programs,
many special-education students have improved attitudes and behavior, self-regulation skills, classroom focus and participation, reading and language skills, test scores and social relations. Dr. Edie Fritz, a psychologist at Creighton Elementary School in Phoenix, conducted literacy exercises with learning-disabled students using HeartMath. She concluded: "When techniques are presented that children are able to internalize and use to reduce stress, reduce the emotional pain of perceived failure, they are able to access what they have already learned." Donate to help children learn more easily and improve their quality of life.
Inside Story – Health Classroom Program
This program helps students’ in grades 9-12 and up to understand the connection between their emotions, health, performance and daily life. HeartMath research has identified a measurable physiological state that facilitates the higher cognitive processes critical for focusing attention and reasoning, which are essential for effective learning, academic achievement and social success. The Inside Story Classroom program promotes healthy behavior and psychological well-being of high school and college students, reducing emotional
turmoil, anger, hostility and depression. It addresses the National Standards for Health Education in high school. Donate to help give high school and college students skills for dealing with stressful times.
Counseling Centers – Programs for Students
Educational counselors are facing a changing high school and college landscape. Most counselors are not trained to deal with eating disorders, depression, cutting, suicides and threats of or actual school shootings, all of which are mounting problems on today’s campuses. HeartMath programs and technology help students deal with the complex relationship issues and other emotional stressors they encounter at school and in today’s society. By providing students a new set of powerful skills to help them practice emotion refocusing,
regulation and restructuring, they are better able to manage their emotions and make smarter choices. Katie Holmes, a school counselor in Colorado stated: "These programs are relevant to the needs of adults and youth alike. They provide insights and skills on how to be more in charge and at peace in the middle of chaos, change and the transitions our educational system is experiencing." Donate to help students help themselves.
emWave® PC/Mac Labs – For Students
The emWave® PC/Mac technology allows students, grades 3-12 and up, to see how changes in their emotions dramatically affect their heart-rhythm patterns on a computer screen in real time. By tracking their "coherence" levels over time, students’ ability to self-regulate their emotions and behavior at school and home are greatly improved. They are better able to manage daily stress and improve their relationships, performance and overall well-being. This technology, popular among students and teachers, trains
students in taking more personal responsibility for their thoughts, feelings and actions. Donate to give students the skills to take responsibility for themselves.
